Description
- Comes in Gift Tin with Glass and 500ml stone bottle Gin.
Poppies Gin is produced by Rubbens, a Belgian distillery that has been producing “jenever” since the early 19th century. According to legend, the recipe for this gin was invented by an English soldier during the First World War: to revive the spirits of the platoon, the soldier offered his companions a small glass of his distillate, flavoured with the herbs and roots he encountered near the camp.
The name of the gin, Poppies, is a clear reference to Remembrance Day. On 11 November, in all Commonwealth countries, the end of the First World War is commemorated and all the soldiers who lost their lives in the war are remembered. The poppy has become the symbol of this anniversary thanks to the poem “In Flanders Fields” by Canadian officer John McCrae.
Poppies is an extremely herbaceous gin, characterized by a heart of licorice and aniseed. Even today, it is proposed in a bottle similar to the original one.
